Ellie and Maddie saw the cardiologist at Gillette Children's yesterday: Ellie has been given a clean bill of health, she has an "innocent" heart murmur, nothing more - just a noise. Maddie's atrial septal defect has been declared fairly small. On their size scale, she rates a "4" - a "3" means they expect the hole in her heart to close on its own, but with a "5", they'd go ahead and close it surgically. Since she's asymptomatic at this point, we'll just watch her until she's about 3 years old, and we'll see the cardiologist again then for another EKG and echocardiogram unless she develops any symptoms such as decreased energy in the meantime. So, good news for now! :)
