I sometimes get asked what the hardest part about having triplets is, and it was hard to come up with an answer until now - having all of them (plus Ellie!) sick at the same time! Ellie must've brought home a bug from preschool; she was pretty sick all last week with a bad cold and missed both days of school. Then on Thursday, the triplets all came down with it too: fevers, runny nose, coughing, etc. Is whining a cold symptom too? The poor kids just can't breathe and are having a hard time sleeping - it's hard to suck your thumb when you can't breathe through your nose! After Ellie started complaining about ear pain yesterday, and the fevers continuing today, we hauled them all in to the doctor this morning. Lo and behold, every one of the little stinkers has a double ear infection! Dave said we are so lucky, we should go and buy a lottery ticket. Needless to say, all four have been started on amoxicillin.
Ellie is already feeling better but for the ear pain, but the doctor told her she should still listen to her mom and dad (yes!) and be sure to take a nap so that she can get better. Now, here's the best part: the little drama queen responded that her mom and dad don't let her take naps because we make her help out around the house! I'm sure Dave's and my jaws both hit the floor. The doctor got a good laugh out of that and said she had to note that one in Ellie's chart, and said she could just envision Ellie dressed in rags, sweeping and mopping floors. I'm sure she shared that one with the rest of the office staff after we left. Ellie's new nickname is now "Cinderella".
A quick update on Zoe: we had her PT and speech evals last week and the good news is that he speech is still in the "normal range" for her corrected age, so no speech therapy is warranted at this point. We were told that within the next 4-6 months we should see some real progress in her speech and if not, we'll have her re-evaluated then. She is starting up PT this week and will be going for 30 min, once every other week, to help get her walking. The physical therapist said it's a reasonable goal to have her independently walking in 3-5 months, and they may give her a walker to help her along. Her first session is tomorrow (Groundhog Day, and Auntie Lisa's birthday!) so we'll see how that goes.
Aidan is going to have to again be the star of this week's blog as I also caught the bug from the little germ factories and haven't taken many photos this week. This is one of his favorite things to do in the basement: stand on the kids' mini bike thing and press the buttons on the play microwave. No matter where I hide the bike, he finds it, hauls it over to the play kitchen, and climbs right up. He's pretty proud of himself, too.
