It seems our house has been a germ incubator for the last week; we're all coughing and feverish, and all we can do is sit and cuddle and watch cartoons in between semi-naps on the couch to pass the time. Nighttime has been especially challenging, and I can't remember the last night I spent entirely in my bed. Monday night was the worst, and 5 a.m. Tuesday morning found all 6 of us huddled on the couch together. I'd been awakened first by Aidan, and not long after Maddie and Zoe joined us to make a foursome. Dave brought Ellie down at 5, and she immediately rushed over to Zoe and said "I can't live without you, Zoe, you're so cute!". Dave quickly reassured her that Zoe wasn't dying, but just sick.
The kids were pretty alert at that time of the morning despite our best efforts to keep them quiet and get them to fall back asleep. Maddie and Zoe were clapping their hands and blowing raspberries, and Ellie was especially chatty, asking all kinds of questions including: "Mom, what makes the Earth spin around?" At 5 a.m., all I could say was, "We'll talk about it later!".
Ellie is old enough to be a little skeptical of any medicine we offer her, and after a couple nasty doses of cough syrup, she was pleasantly surprised at the taste of a new bottle of cherry flavored ibuprofen I'd opened. "This medicine tastes great, it's kind of spicy!"
