Blood 'n Billy

We finally have an answer to the question of which of our kids will be the first to get stitches?
It's been a gory week at our house. On Thursday, Aidan was climbing into an empty plastic toy tub that we have in our family room when somehow he managed to whack the bridge of his nose, giving himself a double bloody nose. He was pretty freaked out about it and was thrashing around as I tried to restrain him and calm him down, but this only led to him getting blood all over both of us as well as on the carpet. I  quickly moved us both over to the tile in the entry way, but by this time it looked like a murder had taken place in our house. We finally got him calmed down, stopped the bleeding, and cleaned up the mess. Then, on Saturday morning, Aidan was following me around the house, as usual. I was getting ready to leave to get my hair cut and Aidan came into our bedroom after me, then started climbing up and down on our bed, and then somehow fell off the bed, slamming his chin into our wood floor (wood floor-1, Aidan's chin- 0). I was right there and knew right away he'd need stitches as it was pretty ugly. It took a while to calm him down and get the bleeding to slow down, then we were off to Urgent Care but as he wouldn't even let them look at it, they sent us to Children's Hospital to have him sedated. The gauze in the photo is keeping a big goop of numbing stuff on a bandage on his chin. And of course the bear had to have some gauze too! (And yes, for those of you wondering, that is a Good Neigh Bear!). Thankfully sedation wasn't necessary but they did have to strap him down which wasn't too pleasant either. He ended up with 2 "inside" stitches and then 8 on top of those. He was just fine once they released him from his "shackles" and gave him a popsicle! He even managed to give the doctor a high five as we left. Needless to say, I never did get my hair cut.

And of course, he completely crashed once we got in the car and slept all the way home. And yes, I was pulled over and stopped on the side of the road to take this picture.

Today was an event Ellie's been looking forward to for more than 2 weeks - a lifetime when you're 5 years old! Today she got to meet her idol, Billy the Exterminator! He was signing autographs at the World of Wheels Expo in St. Paul, and knowing how much she likes him, we of course had to haul everyone up there for the afternoon. To our great surprise, he's a lot more popular than we ever expected: we ended up waiting in line for almost 3 hours (just TRY to imagine keeping Ellie plus three 2-1/2 year olds entertained for almost THREE hours)!! Dave and I took turns holding our spot in line and shuffling the kids around RiverCentre to check out all the cool cars and trucks, but it was still a very long afternoon. But, in the end, our patience was rewarded!
While we were waiting in line, I asked Ellie if she was going to give him a hug when she got to meet him, and she very seriously said, "No, Mom, we have too much to talk about."
Dave and I were afraid she'd suddenly clam up when it was her turn to meet him, but she did great. She asked him how it felt to be an exterminator, and he told her it was a really hard job. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy, didn't rush us or anyone else through, and even agreed to stay later than his allotted time to sign autographs for the people still waiting in line (including us!).

The triplets went to bed tonight dreaming sweet dreams of a decked out Escalade complete with DVD player in dash and leather seats:

Let's hope this week is a little less "exciting". Although Ellie does start karate lessons on Tuesday...
