The cat's out of the bag

Word's getting out that I'm going back to work this summer at State Farm! I'll be a seasonal, part time employee from June through at least September. I'm looking forward to getting back into the adult world again, at least for a little while, though I have to admit to some concern for my mom, who's going to be watching the kids for 2 days a week over the summer while I'm at work. I hope they go easy on her! Speaking of work, I've decided to name my photography "business" Shari K Photography. I am completely realistic that I will not be making any money from this for quite some time - if ever! - as I still have a lot to learn, but I'm so excited to have found something that really challenges me and yet is so fun! I have a couple photo sessions planned for this spring and would like to schedule a few more to build my portfolio, so if any of you are willing to give me a try and would like me to take photos of you or your kids, please feel free to contact me. I would not feel comfortable charging session fees while I'm still learning, so if you're willing to allow me to use some of your photos in my portfolio, I'll do your shoot for free and provide you with a CD of the images.

It's pretty sad to talk about photography but then have to tell you I really don't have any photos of the kids for this blog post! So although I don't have any photos, I do have a video. Aidan likes to play with the cabinet doors in our kitchen and make a "bathroom", then tell me he's going potty in there. Check it out:

The kids are all sick with colds/coughs/fevers again. Maddie woke up from her nap on Thursday and told me her ear hurt - sure enough, she has another ear infection. Ellie was pretty bummed as she had to miss the beach party on Friday at school to stay home sick with us and while I was just putting her to bed tonight, she started complaining of an earache. I have to believe that as soon as it starts to warm up and we can get outside, the fresh air will help all of us to get over this crud!

Aidan's chin is healing nicely. His stitches have been removed and while he's got quite a manly scar there now, I'm hoping it'll minimize with time. We have to keep sunscreen on it whenever he's outside, but at least it's on the underside of his chin, so it's not too visible. Zoe ran into a door frame last week and instantly had a huge goose egg on her forehead, so our kids are again looking a little worse for wear.

Ellie's now registered for all day kindergarten starting next fall, and in case I've failed to mention it, the triplets are registered to attend preschool two mornings a week as well! I can't wait for two whole mornings each week all to myself!! What ever will I do with all my free time? ;)

I've been a little busy too- that's me, second from left in the water:

Mpls Polar Plunge for Special Olympics - Lake Calhoun, March 5, 2011
As crazy as it sounds to jump into a freezing lake in March in MN, it is painful fun and it's for a great cause. It was extremely cold this year though! My best friend, Renee, dragged me into it with her this year and I'm glad she did. It helps keep me from feeling like a boring old mom who never does anything fun! I still haven't let Renee talk me into skydiving with her, though. And I never will.

What else have we been doing? Ellie started her martial arts class and now has a white belt with a black band on it. She's very proud and likes the classes, but she's made a few comments that lead me to believe she misses swimming. Comments such as, "I miss swimming."

I also started a speech seminar through our school district last week entitled "It Takes Two To Talk" which is supposed to teach me how to work more effectively with Zoe on her speech since she's shown some delays. The only "problem" is that between the time that I signed up for the class and when the first session was held, her speech has improved tremendously! She's using three word sentences and her vocabulary is rapidly expanding. I think her speech and articulation is actually better than Maddie's at this point, though Maddie is also making rapid progress and is becoming much easier to understand. And what can we say about Aidan? We're having full conversations with him - the kid loves to talk! I'm still encouraged by the class and plan to keep working with Zoe and Maddie to help them both catch up with Aidan - assuming they can ever get a word in edgewise!
