Fire, Falls and Flying (kites, that is)

This weekend was one of the most beautiful "spring" weekends we've had in years in Minnesota. The normal average high for this time in March is in the 40s, but we've had several days of mid-70s with sunshine! And since it's so early in the year, no humidity and best of all, no bugs! We of course had to take full advantage of it and spent most of the weekend outside starting with our first bonfire of 2012 in the back yard Friday night. We let the kids stay up a little later than usual and roasted marshmallows to make smores! The kids were getting a little cranky by that time of night but we still had a good time, made even better by our neighbors coming over to join us for a little bit!
Saturday morning we spent a little time cleaning up the house and then, after lunch, we drove to Minneapolis and spent the afternoon hiking around at Minnehaha Falls along with a lot of other people who also thought it was the perfect place to spend such a beautiful day! The kids actually let me take some photos of them - wait for it - all together! And of course I had to take some individual photos. It was absolutely gorgeous down there and we'll definitely have to go there again this summer and maybe take a picnic along!
Sunday wasn't as successful; we poked around the house and yard again in the morning then made an attempt at flying kites with the kids in the afternoon at the high school's football/soccer field behind our house. It was windy enough for kites, but the kids aren't really old enough to take direction and the adult to kid ratio was a little out of balance. We lost one kite to a tree across the street, the second took a bit of a beating, and the third barely made it into the air - it's a stunt kite with two handles and Dave and I aren't smart enough to figure that thing out yet. We'll need to pick up some simple, cheap kites to use next time. If there is one.

Here are the pics from Saturday!

We had so much fun at the bonfire! Thanks for inviting us over! I love the photos. My favorite is definitely the one of Ellie from above. She is growing up so fast.

Awww, thanks you two! Renee, that's my favorite picture too. She is getting so grown up, I just can't believe it. Give Nolan an extra hug from us today!
