This 'n That

I'm hoping to get to bed on time tonight so here's a list of what we've been up to lately (not necessarily on chronological order):
  •  I started back at work at State Farm on May 1 - just like last year it's a part-time, seasonal position so I'll be working through the summer. Thankfully my mom agreed to watch the kids again while I"m working, and thankfully we're done with potty training - unlike last year. I think we aged her a few extra years putting her through that! Aidan really had a tough time when I left the first day but after that, they've all done really well with Grandma.
  • We got fish for each of the kids a few weeks ago thinking it was time for them to learn to take care of a pet. They were so excited to pick out and name their own fish: Ellie's guppy was named Bonnie, Zoe's guppy was named Dolly, Aidan's guppy was named Prickly, and Maddie had a molly that she named - wait for it - Doggie. For those of you who know Maddie, that was no surprise. Unfortunately, Ellie's fish only lasted 6 days (see prior blog about Winnie), and the others only another week after that. We still have the tank but it's currently vacant. I feel bad every time I walk by it. We'll probably go get a goldfish or two sometime soon.

  • Winnie's doing great and has settled in really well with our family! I think she's even gained weight since we got her. My only complaint is about her shedding. It's awful. Each time I brush her - which I only do outside - I end up with so much fur that it looks like a small animal was murdered in our back yard.  We did learn one thing about her this past week: just like Wiggles, she's scared of thunderstorms. Poor thing just pants like mad and follows us all over the house. She normally sleeps downstairs on the couch but on the couple nights it has stormed, she would not leave our side and ended up sleeping on the floor next to my side of the bed. After living with Wiggles' antics during thunderstorms for so many years I finally decided to try a Thundershirt for Winnie so I picked one up today. I hope it works! If so, I'll go get one for Wiggles too.
  • Great news about Ellie! She learned to ride her bike today without training wheels! Dave unfortunately missed it as he was out of town with my sister and my dad getting the cabin opened up for the year. She'd been riding our balance bike (a bike without pedals) and was doing so well I went ahead and took off her training wheels on her bike, and off she went! We're so proud of her!
  • Zoe had her latest appt with her endocrinologist last week; she's been doing so well on her growth hormones that he upped her dosage to accommodate her growing size. She's now at 22 lbs, 11 oz., and she's 33.5" tall! He took another hand/wrist x-ray to compare to the one we had done last year, and said to come back in 3-4 months. Yay, Zoe!
  • We had family pics taken last week by Annie Torrini. She did such an amazing job even though I'm usually so uncomfortable on the other side of the camera! I'd really wanted photos of myself cuddling  with the kids since I'm in so few photos with them and love the pics we ended up with! Here are a few of my favorites of her pics of the kids:

  •   I realized I hadn't posted any pics of the kids from Easter, so this one will have to do:

That's it for tonight! Good night, folks!

Thanks, Helene! Annie's the best photographer with my kids and I'm so thrilled with the pics. That one you pointed out is my favorite - I have it set as my desktop background and it makes me smile everytime I look at it! I have such beautiful kids, don't I? :)
