We finally made it out to San Tan Regional Park for a scorpion hunt last night. The
regional parks around here usually host about one a month during the
summer months. It's about a mile hike along their trails at night; you
bring (or buy) a black light flashlight and "hunt" for scorpions along
the way - they glow under UV light. Of course you don't pick them up or
get too close, and closed-toe shoes are a must. But it's pretty cool!
The hike is really neat at night - you can actually see pretty well at
night by the moonlight, even without a regular flashlight, and the view
of the city lights in the valley is gorgeous! Nice to get outside for a
hike when the temp finally drops (slightly) below 100 in the summer. The kids hadn't yet seen a scorpion in the wild, and thought it was pretty cool too!We only saw about a dozen altogether, but it was fun to hunt for them!
